Drastically Reduce Lag on Runescape

Here's a tech tip on how to drastically reduce lag while playing Runescape. Most computers allow you to choose how much computing power you want to place into certain programs. For instance, if you were running 20 youtube videos at once on your internet browser, you can choose to put more processing power into your internet browser so that the 20 youtube videos playing at once can keep playing without crashing.

Similarly, you can do this for Runescape. If you are in a duel or PvP'ing with valuable items, every second counts. So you want to make sure that your computer is processing Runescape as fast as possible, and that you have as little lag as possible. Here's how to do that for a PC.

Step 1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and choose to open your Task Manager. You should get something that looks like this:

Step 2. Click on the processes tab and locate java.exe. If you are running multiple programs that use Java, you may have multiple Java.exe's. Runescape is the one that usually has over 100,000K for the memory usage. Please note that you have to have Runescape running in order to see the Java.exe.

Step 3. Once you've located Java.exe, right click on it and find the "Set Priority" area.

Step 4. Set the priority to High or Realtime. I would suggest setting it at High because Realtime tends to make things unstable.

And that's it. Now a majority of your computer's processing power will be put towards Runescape. So if your computer is running fine but you seem to have some lag on Runescape, this will help get rid of that extra bit of lag. Remember though, your internet connection is a big factor too. This will get rid of the lag that is caused by your computer's processing distribution.

The best part is, this method can be used for other things. For instance, if your FaceBook is lagging, just find Firefox.exe (or whatever internet browser you are using) and set it to high priority. That will significantly reduce any computer processing related lag for the program.

So the next time you're about to go in for a 100M stake or trying to kill someone for their Nex gear, be sure to let your computer know that Runescape is a high priority!

Edit: I wanted to add that the priority thing resets after you close Runescape. So you don't have to worry about your computer permanently keeping Runescape as a high priority.

Play Runescape on Your iPad and Other Apple Mobile Devices

If you're like me, you probably have at least one or two mobile apple products so far in your life. For me it was the iPod Nano and iPad.

I've recently been wondering whether or not it's possible to play Runescape on the iPad. Most people will tell you the answer is "NO!" because the Safari browser on iTouches and iPads don't support Java. Runescape requires Java in order to run, so you normally can't play Runescape on an iTouch or iPad.

Well, with recent App developments, you CAN play Runescape on your iTouch or iPad! There is an app on the iStore called "CloudBrowse". The App isn't free. But for $2.99 in the app store, this custom-browser app allows you to access games and services that use Java. By the way, I'm not affiliated with this App in any way, I just love the service that it provides to Runescape players on-the-go such as myself.

So CloudBrowse allows you to play Runescape from your iTouch and iPad devices! CloudBrowse is also great for other games, videos and services that you normally cannot access with the default Safari browser.

The best part is, this is NOT a remote access device. So it's not like team viewer or those other apps that require you to have a main computer on, and simply mirror your iPad to the main computer. All you need is your iPad or other apple mobile device.

A fair warning though: CloudBrowse makes Runescape run pretty slowly, and it's difficult to type. It's also difficult to get precise clicks, since you're using your fingers instead of a mouse. And finally, they allow you 10-minute browsing sessions after which, you have to reload the browser (not sure if they changed this or not). I wouldn't use CloudBrowse to do things such as PK'ing, staking or even questing.

However, if you're away from your computer and somehow have Wi-Fi access (like at a Cafe, a boring party at your Uncle Boris's house, or at school while your teacher isn't looking) then I would recommend using CloudBrowse for the following things:
  • Training simple skills such as woodcutting
  • Training construction with a demon butler
  • Doing slayer tasks on monsters you are confident with
  • Checking your Grand Exchange offers
  • And other things that don't require much movement
Hopefully this will help you the next time you're stuck at your uncle's boring party with no friends, or when you're about to fall asleep in your history class... Just kidding, stay focused in school!

Speed Up Your PC With a Disk Cleanup

Welcome to this week's edition of Tech Tip Tuesday!

This week we'll be discussing how to tune-up your computer's performance by utilizing the "Disk Cleanup" feature that most computers have. If your computer is running a lot slower than when you first purchased it (programs opening up much slower, lag while typing things, etc), then running a Disk Cleanup can help to get rid of some of those problems.

Disk Cleanup safely removes temporary files that have amassed over a long period of time, much like the sludge that accumulates in rain gutters. That's why it's important to run a Disk Cleanup about once a week, or at least every other week.

This guide will show you how to perform a disk cleanup.

These instructions are for users who are running a Windows-based operating system (XP, Vista, 7).

1. Go to the Start Menu and select "All Programs"
2. Find "Accessories"
3. Click on "System Tools"
4. Finally, press "Disk Cleanup"
5. A menu will appear and show the amount of space that you can free up. Below that, you can select which areas you'd like to cleanup.
6. I usually select to clean all of it, as junk tends to accumulates in all of those areas.
7. Press "OK" to begin the cleanup.

Once the cleanup is complete, you will notice a difference in your computer's speed. If you've had a computer for more than a year and haven't done a disk cleanup, you will notice a significant improvement.

Doing disk cleanups on a weekly basis will help ensure that your PC is running at peak performance.
