Mole Hunting is a lesser known way of racking up money, thus making it very effective. The concept is to hunt down the giant mole underneath Falador by saferanging, so that you take no damage. You then collect the mole skins and claws, and trade them to Wyson the gardener for birds’ nests, which can sometimes give a nice profit. The only requirement is at least 70 ranged, although it can work with lower levels, it’s much harder to do.
| Item | To Obtain |
| Black Dragonhide | Buy from G.E. |
| Void Knight Armor | Pest Control |
| Rune C’bow | Buy from G.E. |
| Mithril/Broad bolts | Buy from G.E. |
| Cannon | Buy from G.E. |
| Spade Candle w/Tinderbox Falador Teleports | Buy from G.E. Buy from G.E. Buy from G.E. |
Remember, you’ll be saferanging, so don’t worry about protective armor or food – just bring three pieces in case of an accident or something similar. If you don’t have void knight armor, use black dragonhide armor as a cheap alternative. A rune crossbow is recommended compared to other ranged weapons because of its strength, and you’ll want strength because the mole has high defense. You’ll want mithril bolts or broad-tipped bolts, or something better if you’re willing to pay for it. A cannon should only be brought in case somebody tries to crash you – you can use the cannon to drive them to another world. The entrance to the mole tunnels is in Falador garden. You will see little mole holes upon entrance – simply use your spade and dig there.
Once you’ve done so, you’ll find yourself in a mole tunnel. First of all, don’t get scared! The only thing you should be scared of is if you accidently extinguish your light source – just use your tinderbox on the candle to relight it. The mole is not aggressive, so no worries! If you want to get out, you can’t get out the way you came in, you must go to the opposite side of the mole tunnels, you’ll climb up to a well in southern Falador.
Now you’ll want to find and kill the mole. It can generally be found in the central area of the tunnels. Once you find it, start attacking it. You can actually easily safe ranging it by trapping it along the outer parts of the cave wall. Just attack it once, and lure it to a saferanging area on the outer part of the wall, and start ranging away.
The tough part is how the mole wi
ll dig underground and show up somewhere else in the cave, but it will be targeting you, so look for it and take it out. It will do it constantly later on in the fight. Once the mole is dead, collect its mole skins and claws. Teleport to Falador and run back to the garden. On the eastern part you should find a building with Wyson the gardener in it. Talk to Wyson and state that you want to trade all your mole drops for birds’ nests. You’ll get as many birds nests as you had mole drops. Get the seeds from them, or whatever is in the nest. If you’re lucky, you’ll get a really great seed – a surprise torstol seed has 400K written all over it! You can also use a pestle and mortar with your empty birds’ nests to make them sellable for a decent price. Doing this repeatedly can make major profits – I like to even make a tab in my bank for mole equipment and rewards.
