I.) What’s up guys? Let’s get right down to it. Before attempting this skill I recommend that you get yourself around 100 million gp. You can do this by following the guides on the The RSMG. Once you have a bit of money, you should continue with this guide to get 99 Smithing; as it is a highly respectable cape and skill. Please note that this skill will take a really long time to get to 99. You will need to play for 31 days straight or 744 hours to get this. Lets proceed, shall we?

I will only do the math for whenever you smelt the bars. You will lose much less money by only smelting but it will take much longer. If you’re going for speed you could smith the bars into armor but I will not add calculations for smithing. I will put the prices of all the ores, bars, and other items you will need at the end of the guide.

Levels 1-15

To reach level 15 Smithing you will need:

To smelt Bronze Bars you need Tin ore and Copper ore.
- 129 Bronze Bars Smelted & Smithed
- 193 Bronze Bars Smithed
- 389 Bronze Bars Smelted

You would need 78,578 gp to buy all the ores and you would get 131,871 gp back which comes out in a profit of 53,293 gp!



Levels 15-48 (F2P):

To reach level 48 Smithing you will need:

- 2,150 Iron Bars Smelted & Smithed
- 3,225 Iron Bars Smithed
- 6,499 Iron Bars Smelted

You may need more or less depending on how many iron ores are impure. To get the approximate cost, I will use 11,000 bars. At level 15 you will successfully make the bar 50% of the time. The higher your smithing level is, the higher your chance becomes of successfully making the bar.

It will cost you 2,651,000 gp to buy all the iron ores (6,499) and you would lose only 64,398 gp in the worst case scenario. There is a high chance that you will not even need to smelt all 11,000 iron ores so there is a chance you could go even.



Levels 48-50 (F2P):

- 335 Iron ores
- 670 Coal

You will smelt this into 335 Steel bars and then proceed in making *Steel Platebodies.

It will cost you 261,635 gp to buy all the ores. You will than sell the platebodies for 69,345 gp. You will lose 192,290 gp.

*It takes five bars to make one platebody

Levels 15-50 (P2P):

To reach level 50 Smithing you will need:

- 3,080 Iron ores
- 22 Rings of Forging

You will be smithing 3,080 Iron bars. Once you have smithed all of these, then you can create whatever you wish. Iron Knives for cash and Iron Platebodies for Fast exp. But it is completely up to you.

For my calculations I will assume that you made the bars into knives. It will cost you 767,008 gp to buy all the ores and rings. Once you make the bars into knives you will make a nice profit of 372,592 gp.

Levels 50-60 (Both):

Simply Smelt 10k Steel Bars. This requires...

- 10k Iron Ores
- 20k Coal Ores

Do NOT smith anything but instead sell the bars to make a nice profit.

To buy all the ores you will need 7,810,000 gp. Once you make them into bars you would have made a profit of 2,190,000 gp!

Levels 60-66 (F2P):

To reach level 66 Smithing you will need:

- 12,715 Iron ores
- 25,430 Coal

Simply smelt steel bars. Once again, this makes a nice profit.

To buy all the ores you will need 9,930,415 gp. Once you sell the bars you would have made a profit of 2,784,585 gp.


Levels 60-66 (P2P):

- 6,020 Iron ores
- 43 Rings of Forging

Just make 6,020 Iron bars then sell. DO NOT SMITH!
It will cost you only 1,499,152 gp to buy the ores. You will make a profit of 896,808 gp.

Levels 66-68 (Both):

To reach level 68 Smithing you will need:

- 1,725 Mithril ores
- 6,900 Coal

Smelt this into Mithril bars and then go and buy some dwarven stouts. This is because you will need to use this to be able to create mithril platebodies making the levels go by faster.

It will cost you 2,559,900 gp to buy the ores. You will lose 1,545,255 gp from this but it's much faster than just smelting.


Levels 68-70 (F2P):

To reach level 70 Smithing you will need:

- 7,577 Iron ores
- 15,154 Coal

Smelt these into Steel bars and then sell. Once again, making a nice profit.

It will cost you 5,917,637 gp to buy all the ores. You will make a profit of 1,659,363 gp.


Levels 70-85 (F2P):

To reach level 85 Smithing you will need:

- 144,056 Iron ores
- 288,112 Coal

You will be smelting 144,056 steel bars. It is highly advised not to smith them. This will make you a very nice profit.

Most of you will probably not be able to afford all of these ores at once. So just buy it in parts.

It will cost you 112,507,736 gp to buy all the ores at once. So you will make a profit of 31,548,264 gp.

Alternatively...

I highly advise doing this way because it is faster and you make only 3 million gp less.

- 67,266 Adamant ores
- 403,596 Coal

You can make 67,266 adamant bars taking less than half the time as above but you will make 28,184,454 gp from it.

Levels 85-99 (F2P):
This is the most daunting part of smithing. Just keep your head in there and it will pay off.

The best way to reach 99 is to smelt adamantite bars.
To Reach level 99 Smithing you will need:

- 558,620 Iron ores (558,620 Steel Bars)
- 1,117,240 Coal

It will cost you 436,282,220 gp to buy all these ores at once. If you sell the bars at once you will make a profit of 122,337,780.

Or...

- 260,689 Adamant ore (260,689 Adamant Bars)
- 1,564,134 Coal

It will cost you 740,096,071 gp to buy all these ores at once. Once you smelt them into bars you will make a profit of 109,228,691 gp.

Or...

- 195,517 Rune ore (195,517 Rune Bars)
- 1,564,136 Coal

You will need 3,804,760,820 gp to buy all these ores at once. You will make a profit of 125,130,880 gp but percentage wise this is the worst way to make money through smithing.

Levels 68-73 (P2P):
To reach level 73 Smithing you will need:

- 10,360 Iron ores
- 74 Rings of Forging

Obviously you will be smelting 10,360 Iron bars.
You will need 2,579,936 gp to buy all the ores. You will make a profit of 1,543,344 gp.

Alternatively...

- 6,902 Gold ores
- Goldsmith Gauntlets*

You can smith 6,902 Gold bars but you will lose a lot (Over 250 Gp per bar made).
You will need 2,443,308 gp to buy the ores. You will lose 1,543,344 gp from this method but it will save you quite a bit of time.

* You can get the goldsmithing gauntlets from the "Family Crest" Quest.

Levels 73-88 (P2P):

To reach level 88 Smithing you will need:

- 33,929 Adamant ores
- 203,574 Coal
- 339,290 Feathers

You will be Smelting 33,929 Adamant Bars. Then you will advance to making adamant bolts (unf).

You will need 101,413,781 gp to buy the ores and feathers. You will lose 27,109,271 gp.

Levels 88-92 (P2P):

To reach level 92 Smithing you will need:

- 17,052 Rune ores
- 136,416 Coal

You can smelt 17,052 Rune bars to save time and them smith them into the item of your choosing. I will not do calculation here because I do not know what you wish to smith the bars into.

Levels 92-98 (P2P):

To reach level 92 Smithing you will need:

- 52,884 Adamant ores
- 317,304 Coal
- 528,840 Feathers

Smelt the bars, Smith the bolts, then sell them.

It will cost you 158,070,276 gp to buy all the ores and feathers. You will lose 42,254,316 once you have smithed them into bolts.

Alternatively..

- 42,307 Rune ores
- 345,656 Coal

Smelt 42,307 Rune bars and then smelt them into the item of your choosing. Once again I will not post calculations because I do not know what you will smith them into.

Levels 98-99 (P2P):

- 21,866 Gold ores
- Goldsmith Gauntlets

It is highly advised that you use this method to save a lot of time.
It will cost you 7,740,564 to buy all the ores. You will lose 5,553,964 gp.


If you have received 99 Smithing from this guide then you deserve a HUGE Congratulations! It's a really hard skill so you deserve a pat on the back. You can get your smithing cape from the Imcando Dwarf south of Port Sarim where you do part of the quest in "The Knight's Sword". Please note that you need to have membership to buy any skill cape.

V.) Tips and Tricks!
================================================== ===========================

-NEVER give up. Take breaks if you have to but keep on Smithing. Accomplish your goal! You CAN do it!
-Whether you believe you can or can’t do it, you’re always right.
-Find people to talk with. Without talking you will get bored.
-If you’re having trouble motivating yourself, ask your friends for support.
-You always get the same amount of XP per bar.
-Level 92 is the half way point.
-Do as many quests that give Smithing rewards as you can to make it easier!
-The higher your Agility level the better! High Agility allows for your running energy to restore faster!
-Having 44 Runecrafting is good to have because you may need Nature Runes on your way to completing 99 Smith.
-Mining your own ores is time consuming but it yields a much larger profit.
-The ring of forging disappears after you smelt 140 iron bars.
-Make sure you keep tabs on the prices of the things you are Smithing!!!
-If you use the Blast Furance, you can get around 45-50k XP an hour and you can make 30-50m from 60-99!

Getting your coal from Miscellania may be cheaper than buying the coal from the Grand Exchange, resulting in more profit at the Blast Furnace.
