Guide Written By: Peterlor3
"What's wrong?" you wonder. You have 1 Message in your mailbox. You open it up: you've been given 1 black mark. This is a frequent enough occurrence, but it has significant effects on our Runescape lives.Rule infractions do occur, when you tell your friend, "OMG what a ----" and you say the word. But don't worry, Jagex slowly deletes your black marks. There are some cases where they permanantly ban your account from EVER playing Runescape again. All this will be explained below.

On the Runescape main page, click on the tab called "Account" to bring up a whole bunch of account related issues.

Sorry about the small picture, but I think you get the idea.
Password: Change it every month! I can't say how important this is! You will be able to count on being hacked if you don't. So take the two minutes to do it!

You will also want to set recovery questions, which are located just a little below this list shown here. Make up questions of your own, ones that only you will know like "What's my teddy bear's uncle's name?"

Logging In: "Oh hey, I do it all the time." But let me warn you. Before you log in in the future, be sure to glance around. If you're at a public place--or even at home--be sure no one's trying to see your password! To set recovery questions, or to change your password, you must log in first.

Black Marks:
Is this some racist kind of thing Jagex is doing? No! It is simply how good of a player you are. If you follow all their rules, you will not get any black marks. If you have a good habit of following rules, you're black mark screen may have a few minor infractions, but you will certianly not have black marks.

One rule, however, is not to impersonate Jagex. I have a very obvious example here:

This player will never enter Runescape again. When choosing a name for your character, avoid "great ideas" like my one, and choose a better name like "Rob123dastor" or "Bigmike245". You will find that you'll live a lot longer that way.

My Guy is Banned! :( *cries*
Don't give up! Go to Help and click on Appeal Bans & Mutes.

After logging in, you can choose: 1.) Apologize 2.) I think Jagex Made a Mistake. It's up to you, but just remember, you only get one chance, so be very polite either way. If you start out with "Omg you are such lazy scum, you British idiots, you made a ****ing mistake," you won't get very much out of it. But if you say, "I'm very sorry. Please give me one last chance. I promise I'll be good." They may let you off. You may be forced to keep 10 black marks, but hey, you can play Runescape again. The best solution is, of course, not to cheat or break the rules.
Finishing Up:
Did this help you? Was it at least interesting? I hope so. If you take one thing out of this, try to remember: stay as far away from breaking the rules as possible. You may end up becoming a player moderator eventually. But they belong to an entirely seperate guide.
Good luck!

Sup guys! Just to let you know, I seriously did not expect a guide on this at all. And to tell you the true, I am glad you guys made this. Now, I know what to do when I ever get into this situation. Just telling me may have saved my account. Like they say to chefs:
"My compliments to the author."
hey i have a comment. on my other account.. i apologize but i got banned..i waited until new years eve and i got the account back just by logging in it and it was back. but that did not work on my account that i did "i think someone hacked my account" appeal.. so i dont know yet..got any suggestions?
Well, and this could be completely false, but i've heard some stories of people whose accounts just randomly were unbanned. Espacially in perm mutes, i've heard people say that when they canceled their membership they got free chat back. It could just be a random error, or maybe they just felt sorry for you. About your other account, sorry man but idk what to tell you =P
