Currency Guide

A guide to all the different currencies in Runescape, from gold pieces to the rough hewn trading sticks of the villagers with poisoned spears in Karamja! Don't hesitate to learn more about the RUNESCAPE MONEY, read the guide and learn about them all!


Gold Pieces

The commonest form of currency in Runescape, gold pieces, or gp as the Runescapians refer to it, is a tradable currency which is used for a transfer of wealth. People often use gp to buy valueable items, and gp has the added benefit of being able to purchase items from most normal stores throughout Runescape, with a few exceptions.

Tokkul

On the Karamja volcano, there is the entrance to a dungeon. This is the dungeon where most free players kill lesser demons, but is also the front door of the TzHaar City. TzHaar shops do not accept gp as payment for their wares though; they only accept tokkul. This is inconvient since the only way to get tokkul is to participate in the TzHaar minigames or to kill monster in TzHaar or to sell items to shops. But with Tokkul, you can buy the best gem in runescape: onyx.

Warriors Guild Tokens

Ever heard of a "rune defender"? It is the best strength bonus that a "shield" can give you. But you need to enter the Warriors Guild to get this "shield". Participate in the various minigames in the Guild until you have at least 110 tokens. Now, go to the top of the Warriors Guild and you will come to a room where you can pay Kamfreena 100 tokens to enter. Now begin killing Cyclopes (lvl 56 and 76) until you get a bronze defender. Exit the minigame, and talk to Kamfreena again. Then re-enter and repeat. Wearing a ring of wealth increases the dropping rate for defenders. If you lose a defender you have to start at the way beginning unless you've got extra defenders... so I suggest getting a few.


Fist of Guthix Tokens

By playing the F2P minigame "Fist of Guthix", you get several fist of guthix tokens. If you win you get more than if you lose. With these tokens you can buy valueable gauntlets which decay slowly, but for free players they are the best gloves you could ever wish for. Members can also buy items that boost the quantities of herbs monsters drop as well as give aditional experience points for fishers.

Trading Sticks

In the Tai Bwo Wannai quest, you gain access to a new minigame in which you can claim "trading sticks" daily from certain people in the village on Karamja. These sticks are, unfortunately, rather worthless, as they only allow you to buy a very limited amount of items at the local shops. Nevertheless, the minigame is fun and profitable.

Notes

Are there other kinds of currency? Of course, but I've listed the main ones. There are castle wars tickets which you get for playing the Castle Wars minigame. There are also ranging guild tickets which you get from the Ranging Guild minigame. And there're a few others, but the main ones you will want to know are gp and tokkul and Warriors Guild tokens, for they have the largest impact on Runescape.
