Common Password Scams

Common Password Scams

Everyday, thousands of Runescape accounts are hacked. Of these, 100% of people who were hacked want there accounts back. These people will typically spend lots of time trying to retrieve their account using the “Recover Account” feature on the Runescape website. In case you haven’t already heard it, this feature rarely if ever works. So, basically if your account is hacked its pretty much over. That means that you need to guard your account extremely well if you don’t want to end up like the thousands of others aforementioned. These are the ways most hackers will try to hack:

1.) The RSC Scam

Occasionally you will see people in the Grand Exchange or Lumbridge shouting things like “RS Classic is back! Go to www.rscreturns. tk!” All of these websites are scams. There is only one way to play RSC and that is by having an RSC account, witch it’s impossible to get. When you get to these sites, it will say tell you to enter your username and password. Then, it will say “Connection Failed” and you they will use your account. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANYTHING! Just report whoever is advertising, and forget it.

2.) The Password Backwards Scam

Personally, I think this is the most pathetic approach. Whenever you see someone yelling things like “OMG! Now Jagex won’t let us say our pass backwards! See *******!” Then, you will see someone say their password, and then the hacker will immediately log off. Poof. There goes another account. Watch out for that one.

Gold Buying/ Fans Websites Scam

Most of you have heard of illegal gold sellers, RS fan sites, tip sites, etc. all of these things are okay (accept for the gold sellers), but if any of these sites ask for your username and password, cut and run. You will see things like “free RS money making guide! Enter your username and password below!” or “free RS gold and Power-Leveling! Enter you username and password to begin skilling!” These are all scams. They will take your username and password and change it ASAP. Jagex has widely warned people about these sites, so be sure to be careful.

3.) Keyloggers

Keyloggers are malware used to count the number of times you press a key, and then use that information to find usernames and passwords. Be especially careful of these, because most of the time they won’t just hack your RS account. These viruses can be downloaded through things like autoers, account hackers, (the kind where you hack the account) guides, and even things like recorders and screen shooters. If you do think you have a keylogger, don’t log into your Runescape account or anything else. Immediately virus-scan your computer, and eliminate all threats.

There are dozens of other approaches, so be sure to keep an eye out and NEVER share your password with anyone else, even your friends. The best steps you can take to ensuring that your account will never be hacked would be to use long but memorable passwords, set security questions (and change them frequently), keep a bank pin (you can get a pin at any bank in runescape), and make sure that ONLY YOU has access to your account. Don’t be stupid, and your account will never be hacked.
